ALTHOUSE-MIDDLETON CONCERT.
It is doubtful if any two singers have ever made so sudden and complete a conquest of the public as that attained by Paul Althouse, leading tenor, Metropolitan Opera Company, and Arthur Middleton, a baritone, from the same famous organisation, during their recent Sydney season. The first Althouse-Mid-dleton concert was giyen at the Sydney Town Hall before a good-sized audience, drawn largely by the fame of their phonograph records. .At its close, however, in the words of the "Sydney Morning Herald," "cheers reflt>the air and handkerchiefs and hats were flourished throughout the crowded auditorium." For the following concerts, the huge Town Hall proved utterly unable to accommodate the crowds desirous of hearing the two artists. It was impossible to extend their stay in this part of thY world, owing to American engagements. Mr. Althouse is booked for a tour with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra,, starting Ist December, and' opens his' season at the Metropolitan Opera House on Christmas night, singing Pinkerton" in a galp, performance of "Mme. Butterfly." Mr. Middleton opens his concert tour in San Francisco, and is booked till Ist February, when his New' York engagements begin. The Wellington season opens with a grand Labour Day concert at the Town Hall on Monday, 23rd October.
