THE RAT NUISANCE
CITIZENS' RESPONSIBILITY.
Although the city has, by persistent warfare upon rats, been ridded of hundreds of these peste, the City Council considers it is wise to continue the procautions against • the introduction _ o£ plague from Australia, especially since tho epidemic on tho other side of the Tasman has not yet been absolutely stamped out. Citizens are reminded that the onus of ridding their premises of rats is placed upon them by. statute, and the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright. . M.P.), urges tiiem to do all in their power to keep the ,rat nuisance down by setting traps and laying poison, etc. The city authorities should be notified of any rats caught, and an inspector will be "tent to the address supplied to take charge of the animals for examination. The council is circularising the largo business firms in the city and o%yners of premises near the waterfront, asking them to take Srecautions against rats, and to forward lose cauciit to the Health DeDartment.
