SUBURBAN TRAINS

THE MANAWATU 'SERVICES.

Notice of two questions regarding the suburban service on the Manawatu line ■was given by Mr. W. H. Field (Otaki) in tho House of Representatives yesterday. In tho first he is asking the Minister of Railways whether, having refused to accept a, guarantee from financially substantial residents to indemnify the Railway Department against possible loss which may ensue from the extension of the snbnroan service on the Manawatu line to Pukerua or Paekakariki, fend having demanded a cash deposit instead, he will state what amount of deposit he requires for ■ the extension to Pukerua and Paekakariki respectively; Jind whether, in assessing the amount of such deposit, he will have regard to the fact that while the extension of tho service might result in loss for a year or more it would probably effect a substantial increase of revenue a little later on.

In his second question, Mr. Keld is asking' the Minister, whether he will without delay give definite consideration to 'the request, repeatedly made for many years past by the member for "Otaki, for an -early morning , fast pas-senger-train one morning a week to begin with, arriving in Wellington before 9 a*m., or, alternatively, an early moming fast passenger train from Palmerston North, relieving the pressure on" the Auckland .express, arriving in Wellington, at, say, about 10.30 a.m.
