REASONS FOR FRENCH P6LICY
TO AVOID CONFLICT WITH
TURKS.
PARIS, 13tK October., ■ Reopening the Chamber of Deputies, M. Poincare, replying to critics ot France's Near Eatsern policy, explained that troops were sent to Chanak without his being consulted, and later, after consulting Marshal loch, and sending an ultimatum to Britain that the sole object of his decision was to avoid a conflict with the Turks, the troops were withdrawn. These troops were in danger, and the first shot would cause a general war. To avoid this, a general' withdrawal was ordered.
M. Poincare's statement was loudly cheered.
