STATEMENT "BY THE MAYOR.
A statement regarding the influenza position was made by the Mayor- (Mr. \p.;' A. Wright, M.P.), at last night's
peeting of the City Council. ISIr. Wright stated that ac a result of H discussion with the Minister of Health that morning, he did nob-think ;th&e was any need for immediate Anxiety. It appeared that for some time ijtbere had been- quite a' number of cases .'of.unfluenza, including pneumonic cases, 2tr; the Dominion. As a. matter of fact khere were more cases in June than now. gome time ago, the Health Department prepared a list of names of people who frave assistance during the epidemic, and j all the machinery was available for deal- ' ing with any emergency that might arise. jHe did not think any move, need be imade at the present moment. The {Health Department would advise at once 5f there was any danger, and the city's JorganSsation to deal with the situation r>ould b? Set going. At a later stage of the meeting Councillor Forsyth suggested that the counoil Should show its sympathy to the Health Week scheme by organising a ilean-up week. He asked the Mayor to /refer the matter to the Health. Comm.itStee for immediate consideration. _ The influenza menace 77as already making its appearance in Auckland, and stops Yhould be taken to combat it before it /cached Wellington.
