APPLICANTS FOE BELIEF.

A marked falling off in the number of applicants for food at the Town Sail has been noticeable lately. Last Saturday there were only 100 applicants, as against 150 on the previous Saturday, and 163 on 23rd September. On Wednesday of this week there were seventyeight applicants, as against ninety-eight on the previous Saturday. The relief committee has reduced the distributing days from three to two per week. When a report to the above effect was submitted to the City Council last night, the Mayor paid a tribute to the good work done by the ladies who distributed food at the Town Hall, and said that at a..later stage the council would pass a motion of congratulation to them. t
