MOTHERS' HELP DIVISION

Messrs. Fuller kindly lent their theatre in Courtenay place for a. matinee on "Wednesday in aid of the Mothers' Help Division of the W.N.E. 'Mrs. Albert Russell had arranged a really good programme, to which members of the Fuller vaudeville company contributed. They were : Dalbeanie, balancer; Mr. Louia Bloy, champion banjoist; David M'Gill, a New Zealand baritone; Donald Stuart, comedy magician; and the De Lucca Brothers, acrobats. Miss Madge Shearer presented a humorous sketch, "The Burgler"; Mrs. Phil. Nathan gave a. dramatic conception of a Dickens extract, "The Sign of Little Emily"; Mesdames HindJe and T. A. Coventry, with Messrs. E. W. and W. J. bobbins, sang the Madrigal from "The Mikado." The character duet of Misses Joyce Julian and Winnie Cooley, "The Lantern and the Moth," was a charming number. Mrs. Albert Russell and Mr C. G. Bryden were heard in the duet, "The Sunny Side of,Life." The dance numbers were exceptionally pleasing. Miss Beere's. pupils, in dainty frocks, gave a forget-me-not ballet; Miss Joan Beere did a clogl--dance and sonjf; Phyllis Oliver and Jean Coker accomplished a "Rose and Butterfly" duo; and Florence Heyworth also> danced. The huntsmen's ballet, by pupils of Miss Marris, was an outstanding number. Little Pegi^y Baker ushered in the ballet in a delightful solo dance. A dance scena, "Lack-a-Day," was also given by a bevy of graceful dancers. The 1 head-dress competition revealed some becoming styles in adornment. Prizes were donated by Mrs. Spear and Mrs. Buxton, and were awarded by public vote to Mrs. .Robertson (most original), who wore a lawyer's wig, and Mrs.- Albert Russell (prettiest), whose head dress represented the lyre bird of Australia. Mrs. Murray Gard'ner- was in charge of the competition. Amonsr those assisting were: Mrs. Phillips Turner, in charge of sweets; Mrs. J. Darling and Mrs. Bayfeild, who sold flowers; Mrs. Buxton, in charge of programmes; Mrs.'Coleridge, Mrs. L. O. H. Ti-ipp, Mrs. J. Findlay, and other members of the committee.
