SHORTT'S THEATRE.
"The Ordeal" will be finally screened to-day at Shortt's Theatre. The second popular feature is ."The Travelling Salesman," another Paramount picture. The supporting pictures include a scenic dealing with the island of Formosa, a Mack Sennett comedy, and an American Gazette. !' ACEOSS THE CONTINENT.'' How a racing car, speeding over the highway at lightning pace, is thrown from the road and ditched, or otherwise hampered, blockaded 1, or held up ir its! race for victory, is shown in "Across the Continent," the new Paramount motor-race picture starring Wallace Reid and Mary MacLaren at Shortt's Theatre to-morrow evening. A family of villains—father, son, and daughter—com- | prise the rival faction in the cross-Con-tinental race, wherein Wallac* Reid, as Jimmy Dent, drives a much ridiculed " flivver," manufactured by his father, to victory. Many expedients are resorted to to stop the little car in its dash across country, one of which consists of setting fire to a long stretch of straw on the sandy roadway. Another is an attempt to block a traffic tunnel, but the hero uses the railway tunnel, and is just missed by a fast train. There is included the necessary amount of romance to make the story doubly interestin. The second feature is " Out of the Chorus," in which Alice .Brady play* lead in a stoi-y in which a chorus-girl bride, married to a scion of one of tho most aristocratic families, proves herself by saving her husband's life. 3f. is An j unusual story, with many dramatic situations. Included on the programme ara "What Next?" a Broadway 'comedy, " Round About London," and an American Gazette. '
