LOADING FOR, AUCKLAND.

It is reported tiat Lamb and Co.'s ne« steamer Gabriclla is to load at fTewcastl* during .tbss week for . Auckland. The Gab' riclla is a steamer' of t593 tons gross, and was recently purchased for the Australian inter Htatfi and interoolonial trade. She was built at Antwerp in 1920 "by the builders of thf Ultimata. ' The Gabriclla's dimensions are:— Length, 2£oft; .breadth, 38ft 7in; -and depth, 17ft. ' .

ORIENT CO.'S NEW STEAMER.

The Orient Steam Navigation Company, according to cables received, has invited tenders for the construction of a naw steamer fol the Australian mail service. It is generally '-reported that she- is to b« Jihe largest and fastest motor-ship afloat.

A QUICK PASSAGE.

One of the fastest voyages made by a cargo steamer for some time I was accomplished by the Federal Steam Navigation Company's steamer Northumberland, which left, Liverpool on the 23th July at 3.30 p.m., passed the Cape of Good Hope on the 16th August at 1.7 p.m., arid arrived at Adelaide on the Ist September. This makes an average of M.S knots, which is an excellent showing under any. conditions. The captain reported that flne weather prevailed* most of the voyage, but this does not detract much from the Accomplishment.

THE ARENDSKERK.

Advice has been received that the steamer Arendskerk. which is' to bring cargo from Continental ports for Australia, will not call at Auckland as was intended. The Turkish trouble in the East, coupled with the destruction of Smyrna, where she was to loadt has interfered with Uer loading, and, consequently, she will not lift sufficient cargo to warrant her bringing any direct to Auckland. It will be transhipped instead at Sydney.
