MACLAREN'S TEAM
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS
PERCENTAGE TO ASSOCIATIONS.
Accompanying the New Zealand Cricket Council's programme of matches for the tour by Maclaren's team, placed before last .night's meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association's Management- Committee, were further particulars relating to the financial arrangements foi the tour. The itinerary has already been published. In ■the-'oourse' of his- lettex, the secretary of the council stated:—
"Regarding the financial arrangements with the Marylebone Club, I have pleasure in advising you that the M.C.C. have advanced the amount of the passage money, which is to be refunded them by this council at the end of the tour. Whilst we retain the total profits, the M.C.C. has undertaken to stand half tile loss of the tour, if any. The Australian, portion of the. itinerary has been arranged by Mr. Sydney Smith, hon. secretary of the Australian Board of Control, and he has undertaken to act on our behalf in all Australian matches, and, upon our invitation, has agreed to meet the visitors at Adelaide. He is also making the necessary arrangements for baggage man and scorer. Very favourable arrange* ments have been made with the, Australian States, with the result that the Victorian, Nsw South" Wales, and South Australian' associations agree that we participate in the net takings to the extent of 75 per cent., and the Western Australian and Queensland associations allow' us 80 per cent, on the same basis. ; ". . . . The Management Committee has decided that this council will take over the financing of tho tour, and in the event of it being tile financial success anticipated, associations to which have been allotted the control of matches will be recognised to the extent of at least 10 pei' cent, of the net profits of their respective matches, sii-mo to be apportioned at the end of the tour.
"The net profit above referred to shall be calculated upon the basis set out in the Plunket Shield rules, viz., the charges against the match shall lie the travelling expenses of members of local teams, living more than twenty miles away from the ground on which the match is played, ground charges, advertising, luncheons, tea, match balls, cartage, and other approved expenses. The actual hotel expenses of the English team while ir town shall also be charged. The Management Committee has decided that the transport expenses throughout the Dominion shall be borne by the council." It was also stated in the letter that the programme which bad been drawn up was, in the opinion of the Management Committee, the very best tbas tiould be decided upon in the interests of Dominion cricket.
Mr. H. J. Buck pointed out that this was the first statement of anything of a clear character that had been received by the association during the time the negotiations had been proceeding with the New Zealand Council. There was nothing in it to comment upon, but it was a pity that the information had not been given at the, start, as it would have Bayed a lot of trouble and work.
Mr. P. B. Broad' stated that the letter made it cleat that at least 10 per cent, of the profits would be given to each of the associations which managed matches. It was considered by members that more definite advice regarding the control of the test matches, two of which were allocated to Wellington, was desired) The chairman thought that the association should write for an explanation of tlie paragraph in the council's jetter relating to th.c control of matches and the apportioning of the 10 per cent.
Tlie secretary, was instructed to writs to the council on tho lines of the chairman's suggestion.
