MADAME D'ALVAREZ.
Looking back over the last twenty years it is doubtful if any musical star has created the interest that Madame D'Alvarez has, and the musical community of Wellington is looking forward to tho concerts to be given, undei the direction of Messrs. J. and N. Tait, in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 3rd, sth, -and 7th October. Coming direct from a triumphant tour, of Australia, Madame D'Alvarez will most assuredly conquer New Zealand, as she has in every other country that has been privileged to hear her. The musical critic of the Melbourne "Herald" wrote of her first concert in Melbourne: "Expectancy ran high for the debut in this city of Madame D'Alvarez on Saturday. The long anticipated event was consummated at the Town Hall in the display of a voice of gorgeous charm, dominated by a personality that completely enthralled the thronged audience. The new singer not only revealed a pure contralto voice with a thrilling top register, and an equalised quality of richness throughout, but she also proved the mistress of a great technique. Behind all this was a temperament of ardent or pathetic significance that took fire at every inspiration of love, sorrow, defiance, or tragedy that the text of the moment suggested." The box plans of reserved seats for the three concerts will be opened at the Bristol on Friday morning, and not more than twelve Beats will be sold to any person for any one of the three concerts, and country patrons will have their requirements attended to in the order received.
