MATHER CUP AT DAY'S BAY

The annual contest between married and single residents of Eastbourne for the Cup presented by the Mayor (Mr. F. H. Mather) tdbk place at Day's Bay on Saturday. There was a" big crowd of spectators, and an interesting game eventuated. The married men's team, which included "Teddy" Roberts, "Snowy" Adams, and a number of other prominent players, was successful in winning by 8 points to 3. For the, winning fifteen, Walling scored a try, which Rogers converted, and Roberts kicked a penalty goal. For the single men Bronte scored a try, which Stewart failed to convert. Mr. E. S. Hylton refereed the game.

In the evening, both teams were entertained at a smoke concert in the Borough Chambers, at which Mr. Turner, captain of the Eastbourne Club, presided. Mr. F. H. Mather was also present, as were a number of the club's supporters. A lengthy programme was disposed of, to which items were contributed by Messrs. Hull, Beatty, Turner, Marris, Hylton, and Reeves. The Mather Cup was presented by the chairman to Mr. E. Roberts on behalf of the married men's team. Opportunity was taken during the evening to present a silver cake dish to Mr. J. Rogers, a prominent playw in tha club, who was recently married.
