ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES FOR JAPAN

A contract for 36 electric locomotives for the Japanese. Government railways has been secured by the. English Electrio Company, of Pre3ton, which is, equipping the Otira Tunnel railway. The value of the work to bo done is over £500,000. Eight of the locomotives are of a heavy type, weighing 96 tone /each, and are designed to take a, train of 400 tons at 60 miles an hour. The others weigh 56 tons each, and. are intended for heavy freight and passenger traffic.
