JOBS AND FOOD WANTED.

The work of cutting the Mount Victoria road through to RoseneatU was completed last week-end, "and thirty men who \vere engaged- on the job have been paid off. This morning, a deputation from these men1, headed by Mr. P. ,Fraser, M.P., waited on the Mayor to ask if'other relief work could be found for them. It was pointed out that they were all married, and that means to assist them were urgently necessary. • The Mayor promised to /do what he could in the men's behalf/ It is likely that some of' them will be taken on the new Khandallah road undertaking this week. ■ • • :

Last year the Corporation began the construction of a new road from Mornlngton to Brooklyn. This work has been m progress as a relief undertaking, although the cost (about £9000) has been provided for out of loan moneyi Latterly, the operatioils have been held up owing to delay occurring in respect to the acqusition of some houses at the Brooklyn end, which ,will have to bo removed before the work can be proceeded with. These difScuUis have now been surmounted, and the work will be pushed on to completion. •' » ......
