SATURDAY'S GAMES
PETONE BEAT NEWTOWN.
Playing at Petone, Petone defeated .Newtown by 19 points to 0 on Saturday. The game was very fast, and was marked by good tackling on either'side. Near half-time, Kruse got the ball from a scrum, and a brief passing bout between that player, Nunn, and Riddell ended by the last-named dashing over the line. Riddell converted. Riddell kicked a penalty goal in the second spell, and Stanford scored a try, which : Shanahan converted. H. Nunn cleverly potted a goal, and in the final stages' F. Nunn got across and Shanahan put on the additional . points. - Mr. J. Mears was referee. ' ■ CENTRAL v. CITY. ' City were beaten by Central at : Emerson street on Saturday by 11 points to 6,' after a game which was brilliant only at times. Coyle scored a try for City soon after the kick-off, but there was no goal. Central became aggressive, and J. Hedges scpred for Central, but failed with the kick. A little later Foley obtained a try for Central, and again there was''no goal. At the end .of the first spell, the score was: Central 6, City 3. Aamodt scored a try for City after the' second spell opened, but Central then got going and Whittingtop potted a nice goal. Just on time Foley scored another try for Central, which Anderson failed to convert Mr. C. Wrack was referee. FEDERAL (Christcnurch) v. PETONE. At Petone, teams representing Federal (Christchurch) fourth-class played Petone, and the game was won by the Visitors by 16 points 1Q 10. For the winners, Ttirner (2), Clegg, 'and'Boyd scored tries, Richardson converting two. For the losers, J. Opie and M'Casgill scored, the latter converting one, whilst W. Childs kicked a penalty goal. Good form was shown by Clegg, Turner, Forrester, and Stevens (captain) for Federal ; and Opie and Taylor (backs) and Harding and Childs (forwards) fj* Petone. Mr. J. Goodall was referee. / Junior. City 17, Central 5. , Petone South 41, Newtown 3.
