Hutchison^ • Ole-v irient Watson^' and Colonel J.uPow.-'i V The applications' committee, it was stated, had dealt with: 176! caws; of which; .61 were' new applications. The, total-number of applications received was 317, and there were 141 cases still under action.'. ■ During the periodl from 28thl July, 1922, to 24th Anpwt,:l922, inctoiW ive, the number of persons who called at .the, office was 313.; The emei-gency committee had met on .seventeen* occasion* daring the" period under review, and had| dealt with 74 cases, thus enabling a de-i cision to be given to most of those- applicants .who' were the responsibility ; of the association, within 24 hour* of "the time their claims were received. :i There' had • been no alteration in tjhe general activities of ■-, the1 committee, which' had been called;upon to decide claims differing widely in description, and—in many, (instances^—difficult of 'solution. "■)■ ' ..<"■'■ The finance- committee, in addition to its control' of I financial operations, dealt, with [eleven '.cases, each' involving more, than, £50. ) -jNine-of the cases required revision respecting the unpaid balance of loans previously awarded by.the commit-, tee.' . Of the two new applications, one was for assistance.to acquire residential property (£250), 'and the other for help to enter the fishing industry (£100). Both these 'claims!,, presented by disabled soldiers, were, after careful .'enquiry and 1 consideration, , favourably' > considered by ■thej committee. Two other-'-case's, in: which there existed no ; war disability, were declined- by the applications' coraV mittee without'reference to» the -finance 1 committee.".They amounted to £500 (re"sidehtial'.property).- The total involved wis £2060 7s 9d. ; The total considered by the finance committee only was £1560 7s . 9d, comprising:. Farmß, odd loans, £500; unpaid balance,: £500; houses,. old • loans,- v £610 < 7s : 9d; ' unpaid balance, £542; : 7sV1 9d'j ■■new.- loan approved, ( £250;': commercial, old I loans; £100; -unpaid balance, £37 9s 6d;. new loan approved,, £100.
