NETO 'STEAMER BEGUN. , ■•■;'■ ■ ,/ : '. ..;.,(i ';'■/;'..■':' V-'J'Y The remort of the General Manager presented to the Eastbourne Borough Council last evening stated that the ferry steamers' had carried 38,632 passengers during the month, .240 round trips had been made, and the- total distance travelled had been' 3600' miles. The coal consumption amounted to 161 tons, the average per^ day for the Dnchess being 3.67 tons, and for the Cobar, 2.5. tons. The weather tbibughout the month had been fair,-: and the number of passengers carried was a thousand more than for July of last year. : Referring to • the new / ferry steamer, the report stated that the engineer, Mr. J. F. Byan, had left for Scotland on the 9th iast. to watch the building, and should resKih England/about 20th' September. The contractors notified thit the plans and specincations for the net? vessel had jieen. approved by iloyds. The ; construction had been begun,, andj it-should be completed on. duo date. ': The Mayor congratulated vthe general manager on the manner in which the overhaul of the Duchess and\Cobai had been oarried out. The report presented by him was comprehensive; and the most complete the Council had ever received;- ariii the time taken in connection With the overhaul was a record.
