. A flash of royal blue along a treeshadowed stream, and a moving shimmer of brown on the still waters. That is the impression of a kingfisher's swift low flight—the blue is his back, the brown, his .breast; feathers. With a graceful uprising. swoop he perches 'on an old stump and sits there soberly, with his long bill and black, beady eyes, watching for finny prey in the creek. The widespread country-side ■is filled with little scenes like these, if we .will only look for them. And it is always best to know something of what wo are looking for. , Those who accept the Forestry League's invitation to attend the forestry rally to be held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber next Wednesday evening will learn much of Nature's wonders in New Zealand. Forests and birds, insects and plantations, and lifelike imitations of bird songs will be items worth hearing, while the cinema pictures and lantern slides will complete an excellent programme. There will be no charge for admission. Schools and families ' should attend. Ladies are specially invited to be there and take their menfolk and the children.
