FOURTH DAY RESULTS

SOME FINE PERFORMERS.

' The musical and elocutionary competitions were continued at the Town Hall yesterday.

The first section of the Bristol Piano Company's scholarship competition was played off. The selected piece was "Barcarolle," and "Schera/' in E minor (Mendelssohn). There were thirteen competitors.' The second section and final will be contested on! Wednesday next. In ' the Scottish song competition, gentlemen, own selection, the results were :^-Claude C. Moss, 96, 1; A. Maodonald, 95, 2; B: H: Mayall, 93, 3. Very highly • commended, Prank Bryant; highly- commended, Ralph Holdgate,. In his. comment the judge alluded to the winner's "glorious basso, cantate voice, good enunciation,, and correct, fine rendering." K. Philpott, ■ Christchurch, was awarded first place in the reading at sight competition '' for - girls under 16. The .winner was given 84 points. Ngaire Phipson, - Wellington, with 82 points, was second ; and Joyce . Staff, Christchttrch, and Mavis Windsor, Wellington, tied for third place; Highly commended: Thelma Aitken, Edna Purdie, Jessie Dunnett,- Sinclair Breen, G. yon HartitMch, Heni Smith,- Hazel Wells, all of Wellington. -. The judge named the order of merit as follows :— M.\ Smith, 90, 1; Mary Oooley, • 80, 2; Phyllis 'Adams, 86, 3. Highly convmendad, M. L. W. Hallid&y,'Myra Baldwin; and May M'Donald. In his comment the judge said : "Winner, good .quality, expressive voice, good diction, excellent tone-ooforar and facial expression." Twenty-six omnpetiton competed for the sacred solo, soprano! or mezzosoprano; own selection.
