AUTOMOBILE CLUB
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
A committee meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club was held this week. There were- present: Messrs. C. M. Banks (chairman), B. L. Donne, 1.,W, Lloyd, and J. J. Williamson, and the secretary, Mr. H. J. Stott.
A letter was received from the City Council with regard to the request from the club that the widening of Molesworth street should be proceeded with, to the effect that there being no. money available for ,the work this year, it had to. be cut out with many, other items in order to avoid an increase in. the rates. The letter also stated that the work is not one on which the' unemployed could be employed. It was also pointed out that the * work on Mount Victoria, upon which.the unemployed are utilised, is being ,'dooe on account of a firm sending a subsidy of £150 to the council towards such work.
A letter was received from the manager of the Municipal Milk Department "in reply to the committee's complaint with regard to broken glass being left in the streets of the city, stating that instructions had been given to the roundsmen- for thorn in future to gather up any of this glass, and a' box is to be provided in each cart for the storage and return to the Department of such glass. ; . .

In reply to the secretary's letter to the General Manager of the Railway Department in reference to the bad state of Jervois quay, a letter was re-ceived-stating that the Department is not responsible to. maintain the roadway over the portion between the Queen's Wharf and the Fire Brigade Station, but the portion opposite the entrance to the Queen's Wharf is recognised as in bad order, and arrangements will be made to have the rails removed from' this portion so that the City Engineer may have the road repaired. ' It was decided to send a copy of the letter to the City Council, with' a' request that the road be put in a better state of repair. ( - The Makara County Council wrote applying for one of the dub danger signs indicating the proximity of a school, which they required to be placed at the junction of Wakefield road and Ohariu road at Johnsonville, a narrow and dangerous corner having been created by the erection of a high, closeboarded fence, against which form of obstruction the council has no remedy. The secretary reported that he had offered the Makara County Council one subject-to them putting same into position,, which action was confirmed. The secretary was instructed to put a further supply of school danger boards in hand. •> ■. ■ - The following delegates were appointed to represent the club at the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Automobile Union to be held early in September :—Dr. Prendergast Kmght, Messrs. C. M. Banks, L. Ashcroft Edwards, and T. Munt. , The. following now members were elected : Dr. Usher, R. Murphy, J. Murphy, S. S. Williams. >
