■ A Ministerial opinion of the report of the Taxation Committee was given by the Hon. W. Nosworthy in his speech on the Budget last night. The Minister said that after going into figures and facts the Taxation Committee came hack to the point that it started from"; It made recommendations, but it had to admit the difficulties of those recommendations. The country must have revenue. It was easier to talk than to find remedies. He ■was not finding fault, and there were some of the recommendations that he agreed with. There was the recommendation regarding high graduated land tax for the bursting up of estates. This tax had been carried to such an extent that it was handicapping men who would employ labour on their estates. The country had been cut up to a considerable extent during the last few years, especially for the soldier settlers! .
