An action for £1000 damages for alleged breach of promise to marry was brought by Emily Stewart, of Pai-awai, against Thomas Edward fasker, hotelkeeper, of Thames, in the Supieme Court to-daj The jury, after twenty I minutes' letirement found that ( there I bad been a contract, and that defendant broke the contract, but that no damages 1 should be awarded to plaintiff For the plaintiff, it was alleged that aftei becoming engaged defendant cooled off, and became engaged to another woman. Ir cross-examination, the plaintiff ad mitted that she had eight jJiJdren and eight grandchildren She said that de fendant had proposed to her in her house m March, 1919 She laughed at him, because she had only known him for a wrek, and it t\ as too soon CounWl ■ "When next did he pro pose?"
