NO SETTLEMENT
IN TRAMWAYS DISPUTE
There appears to be little prospect of the Wellington tramwaymen's dispute be-» ing settled before the Conciliation Council, and it is probable that the whole matter will now be referred to the Arbitration Court for decision. The dead lock has arisen because of the City Council's refusal to agree to anything in'the nature of a stabilisation of wages for twelve months From the coarjicil's point of view it is contended that if such a concession were granted to the tramwaymen, then the wages' of all other Corporation employees who work under awards of the Court would have to be stabilised also.
