RETURNED SOLDIERS

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION.

A number, of matters pertaining to the welfare)! of returned soldiers were discussed at last night's meeting of the Wellington R.S.A. Mr. G. Mitchell,' M.P., presided. Between forty and fifty members were present. Mr. Mitchell reported oh the business done at the District and Dominion-con-ferences of the R. S.A. With regard to the resolutions of the Dominion conference on the valuation of' land, Mr. Mitchell said that this matter had, been taken up in the House of Representatives. There were divided opinions as to ■\vhether land should be revalued, but in ".tA»e speaker's opinion the time was ripe for revaluations to be made. , 'The Chairman went on to say that the future of the association appeared to be very bright. The billiard-room was now beini? run at a profit; and it was apparent that the association had, to use a phrase.of the Prime' Minister's, "turned the corner." So.far as membership was concevnied, there had been 800 renewals, but this was not as satisfactory as could be desired. Mr. Mitchell trusted that all returned soldiers would renew their subscriptimis, so that the association might continue to do good work. Colonal G. T. Hall was appointed treasurer of the association. Kelly was elected a member of the com mittee. ; _ | The constitution of the association was amended allowing veterans of wars other than the Great War to become-eligible for' Buembensbip.. -On the question of membership, Mr. A. Pair moved that members' sons, over the ago of eighteen years should {have the right to become honorary members. '„-.'
