WATERFORD OCCUPIED

REBELS KEOTRE FIGHTING.

LONDON, 21st July. When the day broke the Waterford Irregulars who had been taken prisoner fought desperately. Fire was re-opened by the Nationals opposite the river, and under cover of a barrage they penetrated further into 'the city. The Irregulars endeavoured to make a stand at the Post Office, but were driven out by heavy shelling. At the latest reports the Irregulars were fighting Tearguard actions in the south-east corner of the town. It is believed they suffered many casualties. The capitulation of the rebels in Waterford is regarded as militarily significant. The city was the pivotal point of their line between Waterford and Limerick. Their evacuation of Clonmel and Cai_ick-_h-Sirir is expected shortly.
