BONUS AND SUPERANNUATION.

The Leader of the Opposition, (Mr. T. M. Wdlfctd) asked the Minister of Finance in the House of Representatives whether, in view of the statement that he is only touching the "bonus" and not "salary" of Public Servants, he had overlooked the fact tha{. Civil servant* had been paying superannuation on. the bonus as part of their salary, and whether, if a further reduction were made, the extra amount contributed to the fund during the time the Civil servants had received the bonus would be set off against future payments, which should be correspondingly reduced until the extra money paW in superannuation on the bonus was worked off. Mr. WiHord stated that since the bonus h!i3 been granted, a Civil servant receiving about £280 per annum (inclusive of bonus) had *>aid ax>projdmately £10 extra, and this Tatter amount, or whatever .additional gum had been deducted, should now be taken into account and the subscription reduced for a period until it. was worked off- \ The Prims Minister said he thought this referred to the same matter involved iiv'a question now on the order paper. The subject was raised last session, and an amendirf it was -'nserted in the Public Expenditure Adjustment Bill to meet it. He could not recollect the exact effect of the amendment, but he was now having the' matter looked into by the Treasury officials, and could give an assurance that no injustice would be done.
