LONDON, 4th July. De Valera to-day endeavoured to secure a peace pact from the Provisional Government, the Lord Mayor of Dublin acting as intermediary, but the Government replied that it would accept only ail unconditional surrender, as it is determined that the extremists shall be crushed once and for all. Tho Lord Mayor says ho risked his life every time he went to tho rebel stronghold, but his desire was to save tbo beautiful city from destruction. Tho Republican leaders were willing to evacuate their positi6ns and go to their homes, but on terms to which Mi© Government would not consent.
