A JUDICIAL COMMITTEE
REFEREES DISOIISS, PKOPOSAL.
■The proposal, placed before the. Wellington Rugby. Union last, week, that al judicial committee he set up to deal with cases -bi players oixiered' off-the-field; by referees was discussed at.. last- night's meeting, of the .Wellington;. Rugby/ Ber iarees' Association. Thie chairman" (Mr. Albert E: Neilsdn) reported- tha,. notice of-motion .'had been- given at the Rugby Union' meeting, and; he deafred to obtaip. the association', opinion on the matter. Tlie proposal was that the eom_tiiteic should consist <jf three—the chairman of th© Management Oommittee, tie chairman of th* Referees'' Association, and anotheu. He did not think that the chairman: of the Referees' Association, should be on the committee, "as he might, have occasion tp oijder a playea: ,off. In this way he might h'avg to "order a playe. off, prosecute tain}, antjl execute him."
Mr. E. S. Hylton fav-ured representa,tion of- the association on the judSerai committee, but thought that the representative should, be appointed by,, the executive. He moved': "That' th« association should approve of the appointment of a judicial committee, and that the-.representation of .the Rei'spee.' Association be left open, and ti^t -the appointment be !_.fc. t. the executive to dtea! with."
Mi. D. M'Kenzie pointed out that the matter would: have .to.ga"befOTe. the delegates, and, in. his opinion, they would not agree to the proposal. An : amendment by' Mr. J.. o.'Si#ivani was : "That, in the opinion of the meeting the chairman of theass'oraationshiuldi be the representative on the tribunal."' MivEylton's motion, was. carried..
