SIMILAR ACCIDENTS.
An accident somewhat similar to the present disaster occurred at the Jubilee gold mine, Waitakauri, 20 years ago. An exhaust fan at the month of the tunnel was driven by an oil motor, the exhaust of which was carried to the men working at the face. ' Both were suffocated and, it is understood, n, special amendment of the Mmmc Act1 was made to cover sucli cases. Then some yeaa-s ago in Wellington at a, garage in Lower Cuba-street, a whole gang of men omrjloyod on a repair job on a car were temporarily knocked out by exhaust fumes, but luckily recovered later. Men working in motor pits under, cars not infrequently suffer from the fumes.
