"THE MAID OF THE MOUNTAINS."

At the Grand Opera House to-night and following 12 nights at a-quarter to 8, the J. 0. Williamson directors announce the first performance in Welling.ton of "The Maid of the Mountains." It is eaid that the company which made such a success in Australia, is intact, being headed by Miss Gladys Moncrieff, about whose wonderful performance New Zealandere have heard so much. The Australian critics are unanimous in stating as the "Maid" this young and charming artist has achieved a personal •triumph. "Tho Maid of the Mountains" ■has a definite and continuous story, in musio which is charming and always in touch with the story, and in a series of character1 parts tho casualness of the musical comedy is almost lost, and there is a distinct return to opera bouffe, staged with such splendour as light opera on this Eide of the world has never known before. In personnel, scheme, setting, and colour there is a return to those old scenes of the sunlit Mediterranean coast, once recognised as the only appropriate homo for comic opfcra, the costumes and characters suggesting that tho origin is chieflr Spanish. Tho opera will bo interpreted by the Royal Comic Opera Company which includes Phil Smith, Arthur Stuart, Leslie Holland, Mione Stewart. Nellie Payne, and Gladys Moncrieff. It is announced by !the management that there are plenty of good dress circle and orchestra stalls seats that can be reserved for to-niuht. It is also announced that the Day's Bay and Eastbourne ferry steamers during the season of "The Maid of tho Mountains" will leave Wellington on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 11.30 p.m. in order to give across-the-watev ipatrons opportunity to see the musical comedy.
