MR. WALSH REPLIES

TO PRIME MINISTER'S ATTACK.

(Received' June 30, 11 a.m.)

■ SYDNEY, This Day. Mr. Walsh, replying to Mr. Hughes, said that the Prime Minister was behaving more like a peevish child than a statesman. It was idle for Mr. Hughes to term the, seamen dupes for standing by a mate who was singled out for victimisation. Ho disclaimed having any connection with the La'rgs Bay dispute. He did not know Why Mr. Hughes had singled him out for attack. Apparently Mr. Hughes had not got -over his spleen against the union for forcing him to spend half a million in bringing the Commonwealth Line up to requirements in regard to decency of accommodation.

[Yesterday Mr. Hughes was reported to have declared thafthe unions must choose between induatrial crucifixion in order to serve Mr. Walsh's purpose and pander to his insatiable vanity and ambition, or sweep him and his like neck and crop out of the union.]
