KARORI TRAFFIC ROUTES

A deputation, which appears to have represented the Karori and Northland Ratepayers' Associations, some other residents of these localities, and the Civic League, met the City Council last evening and advocated the taking of a poll of the ratepayers on the proposal to connect Karori and Northland by electrical tramway with the Kelburn caSle tramway; this proposal, if carried, to replace the Raroaroad tramway proposal already sanctioned by the ratepayers. The Mayor,l Mr. Wright, is reported to have given a sympathetic reply. Apparently, the deputation prefers the bird in the bush to the bird in the hand; but, before a decision is arrived at to take another poll, several points should be cleared up. If the poll is favourable to the electrical connection between the Kelburn cable tramway and the Karori electrical tramway, does Raroa-road automatically drop out of the loan schedule altogether, or does it remain as a road without a tramway? Would it place the City Council at a financial disadvantage if the connection were made before the Kelburn cable tramway is acquired, and would the subsequent resumption of the Kelburn tramway be made more costly? Would it be possible, and financially advantageous, to resume the Kelburn tramway before the poll is taken 1 What sum would be required for resumption,' and would the Council be able to finance it?
