PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Mr. Arthur H. Vile has resigned from the position of editor of the Manawatu Daily Times, and will probably be leaving Palmerston North at an early date.

Mr. J. H. Fowler, who has been assistant secretary of the Citizens'^ Lunch Club, has been transferred to the Wellington house of Goldingham and Beckett, Ltd., by which firm he'is employed.

At the annual meeting of the Manawatu Patriotic Society, the secretary's report stated that so far £9353 of the funds had been distributed to ex-soldiere arid £1200 toNlependanta. The following members of the committee were elected: M«ssrs. J. A. Nash, J. Blackwood (treasurer), W. Blackburne, M. Cohen, F. H. Cooke, T. E. French, A. J. Graham, T. R. Hodder, J. M. Johnston, J. Linklater, J. H. Stevens, B. J. Jacobs, O. Monrad, J. H. P. Strang, S. A. Lancaster, A. Mathieson, A. P: M'Hardy, E. Akers,' R.- S. Abraham, J. A. M'Leavey, J. P. Innes, and Dr. Betfc.

Mr. P. C. Freeth, formerly of Palmerstpn North, and now on the staff of the Sydney Morning Herald, is reported to be making a good recovery from his recent illness. ■■'•■■

Mr. C. Burgess, of Marton, "liae been appointed to a position on the teaching staff of the Central School.

The new valuation of the Palmerston North1 borough shows a big increase in the Values placed on most of the properties, the rise in: some cases being as much as 100 per cent over the previous valuation. The increases are most marked in ■properties in Rangitikei, Cuba, King, and Queen streets.
