MILK DELIVERY

OFFICIAL EEPORT TO COUNCIL.

An official report covering the action taken by the Milk Department in regaird to No. 3 block was supplied to the City Council last night by the Milk Committee. It read:—

"As payment from the Wellington Milk Vendors' Association for supplies during the month of May was not forthcoming, the committee has been compelled, after oonfeiTing with the directors and representatives of such company, to take over the distribution of milk to the hbuseholders in the No. 3 block. This: was only done after every effort had been made to obtain a satisfactory settlement, and delivery was commenced on the 22nd instant. The change-over Has been accomplished with comparatively small inconvenience to the householders, and the committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered in this connection, by-the general manager, the manager of distribution, and tihe staff generally." The committee further reported that arrangements for the change-over to the bottle and coupon system, which is to become operative as from the 9th July, wene now well in hand, and that arrangements had been made with approximately sixty agents . for the sale of coupons in various parts of the city and suburbs. The filling and washing machines were now in course of erection, and would shortly be in operation. The committee was confident that the new scheme would be put into operation on due date with the minimum of inconvenience to consumers.

Councillor Chapman congratulated the Milk Committee on ths action it had taken in regard to No. 3 company. He thought that . the committee took the only step possible in dealing- with a concern which, apparently, had raised all sorts of obstacles.
