This morning, at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., a, young man named James Joseph Roche (for whom Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared) was charged with the theft of the bag.. The girl had had to undergo a serious operation, and in conse?uence the accused was depressed. Beore boarding the steamer he had a number of drinks, and was in a rather stupid condition. He went to sleep on a couch, and on waking up found the bag under his head. How it came into his possession he did not know. Accused was convicted and admitted to probation for twelve months.
