The State Department has been advised that forty Americans, captured by Mexican bandits near Tampko, are being held to ransom. The Oortez Oil Company's property has also been seized. The Secretary of State (Mr. C. Hughes) has made a strong demand that the Mexican 'Government should act immediately in order to suppress banditry, secure the release of the Americans, and recapture their property.
