TARRED MACADAM
ON CITY STREETS
WOEK TO STOP FOR WINTER.
Owing to the approach of wet weather, the work of putting down tarred macadam surfaces on city streets requiring such treatment, will have to cease shortly' for three months. The major portion of Featherstonstraefc has been laid down with, tarred macadam, to the entire satisfaction of pedestrians who use this thoroughfare frequently, and who aTe well aware of discomforts caused in previous winters, when the road was little better than a slough of despond. Tarred macadam is now being laid on the northern part of the street, near tha Government Railway Offices, and the City Engineer is anxious to have the whole of tha work completed up to the Lainbton Railway Station before the bad weather sets in properly. During the winter attention will be given to keeping the waterfront macadam thoroughfares in oijder.
