FATAL FALL OF EARTH
MAN KILLED WHILE EXCAVATING.
A young mail named1 Phillip Henry 'Turnbull, employed at the General Post Office, and residing with his parents at Main-road, Mornington, was killed while engaged in excavating a section in Bal-four-road, Mornington, this morning. Deceased, who wns 23 years of age, was carrying out the excavation with a view to erecting a house,. and was being assisted in the work by Mr. William Arthur Thomas, who was accompanied by his two children. About ,10 o'clock Mr. Thomas saw tho bank giving way, and1 shouted a warning to Turnbull. The bank, however, collapsed forthwith. Tha falling earth struck the barrow which Turnbull: was engaged in filling, and the barrow bounced back and fractured his skull. The children of Mr.'Thomas were both pinned down"in the debris, but were extricated uninjured. Dr. Lino was called in, but, on arrival, could only pronounce that Turnbull was dead. An inquest will be held.
