MISS ROSINA BUCKMAN
PIONEER, CLUB RECEPTION.
A most appreciative band, of Wellington women assembled at the Pioneer ■Club yesterday afternoon, when MisiS Rosina Buckman was the guest of honour. Mrs.; Gravestock. and Miss Adelina Leon were included in the, welcome, and arrived with -Miss Buckman. The rooms were charmingly arranged with, winter flowers and' foliage, and delicious, tea was served by 'Mesdames Newton, J. Myers, Waters, and assistants. The president, Mrs. S. Harcourt, was unable, through illness, to be present, and the guests were welcomed by Miss Kane (vice-president), Mrs. J. , Myers, Mrs. Sommerville, and Mrs. Montgomery, ■ members of the committee. In her welcoming' speech, Miss Kane expressed the pride which New Zealanders felt at the fact that Miss Buckman had made a name for herself with her beautiful -voice .and artistry in London and other parts, of the world. Miss Buckman. replying to the welcome extended to her, said she felt overcome .with, the kindness everywhere, extended to her s*lf and, her husband, Mr. Maurice D'Oisly. It was a.very, great pleasure to com* back to New Zealand' to meet so many old friends, and make, so many new ones. Afterwards a great many, members were personally presented to Miss Buckman, some of whom had been present when she had-visited the club' twelve years before, • "and others who met her for. the first time. Among these was Miss Adelaide Van Staveren, a fellow-worker in the. art, and Mrs. Alfred Hill, who had been associated with Miss Buckman's first essay in opera, when she played in Mr.' Alfred Hill's work, "The Moorish . Maid." During the afternoon Miss'-Eileen Clifford gave some of her delightful songs, which are always so popular. Miss Buckman's costume was of nile miroir velvet embroidered in steel, her toque being to match, with gTapo trimmings. Her wrap was of black chiffon velvet with' n- deep silken fringe. Sho was presented with a, beautiful bouquet of roses and maidenhair fern.
