PARAMOUNT AND ARTCRAFT.
The story of "Over the Hili," now being shown at Paramount and Artcraft Theatres, deals, with a mother, acted by Mary Cany who endeavours to raise her children in the patli of, righteousness, and with that end in view she makes every sacrifice so that her children may have the proper schooling and comforts. The picture, which both entertains and edifies, is worthy of popularity, and when, in addition, such a production touches the tenderest chords of' the heart, it deserves a niche to itself in the annals of motion picturedom. "Over the Hill" has delightful interludes of homely, humour, which enable the spectator to enjoy abundant laughter, .the influence of which does not. in,one degree destroy or nullify the elevating effect of the pathos which dominates the plot. The camera has seldom, if ever, recorded'a finer piece of acting than -that of Mary Carr.as the mother—-Ma Benton. . Her achievement- is a noteworthy one. It has its foundation in the fact that she does not appeav.to be acting at all, but' just" to have stepped into the picture with her own four chilr, dren (who have important .parts) and to portray herself. The play has had phenomenal success in both America and Australia. . In addition to the' main feature, the programme contains several other pictures which give variety to the entertainment.1 ■ Appropriate' music is provided by a skilled orchestra. ' '
