BOYS' INSTITUTE

ESTABLISHING A PLAY AREA.

The monthly meeting- of the Management Committee of the Boys' Institute and S. A. Rhodes Home for Boys was held last evening, the president (Mr. tr. A. Troup in tho ohair). There were also present: Mesdames W. S. Moorhouse, J. M'Korrow,' and J. ' Hislop, Messrs. T. Shields, J. Morice, B.Sc, W. A. Parton, C. S. Moore, P. W. Banks, \V. I. Gibson, J. Murray, and the director (Mr. J. W. Butler). - The director's report stated that the attendance had been good during the month. Eight hundred and forty cupa of oocoa at one penny had been supplied to sohool' children during tho dinner hour. The brass band had rendered service at several public functions. The moving picture entertainment held every week was. largely attended, and it was intended to introduce community singing for boys and girls, commencing on Friday evening. The presidenf (Mr. Troup) reported with reference to the play area to, be established in front of the Hospital. The Hospital Board would fence and prepare tho ground, and the Institute would provide the necessary apparatus,' It was intended to interview the City Council with a request that they provide a shelter shed and necessary conveniences. The play area will be open to boys and girle, and the Institute will undertake to provide thenecessary supervision. It is intended that the play area shall be the most complete and up-to-date in tho Dominion. The attendances at the tepid bath during the month reached 1885. The attendances for the year from Ist January to 30th April totaled 6378.
