BROWN APPLES

INVESTIGATION IN ENGLAND.

(Received May 30, 2.30 p.m.)

LONDON, 29th May. Some of the Port Nicholson's apples were brown inside, like those in previous shipments. The Overseas Fanners' Federation is conducting exhaustive inquiries in an endeavour to trace the cause, including an analysis of the air in the hold. They are submitting samples of the apples to Cambridge University botanical experts. The federation's shipment of New South Wales pears by the Mantua was in variable condition, and all on the ripe side. A considerable portion was wasty and some were condemned.
