ANGLICAN BOYS' HOMES
A MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR
: His Lordship Bishop Sprott presided over the annual meeting of the Anglican Boys' Homes Society, held in the Diocesan Library last evening. ,-r. "You are completing a most successful year, \ remarked Bishop Sprott. The year that had passed, he added, had seen the completion, of the new home, which he need not describe, because he presumed they^had ail seen it and been delighted, with Mt. It was now eleven years since the Borne was first started, and he thought the\progress had been wonderful, and that the committee and those who had been, active* in the; work were deserving of all praise, and were moet heartily to be congratulated.' There were now some 46 boys in the home. It was very sad that in ; this country there should be boys to enter such homes; but as there were such boys it was a matter 'for congratulation that there was suitable provision for them. Those' boys through no fault of their own had been .rather handicapped in the beginning of their life, but they had now an opportunity;'of making a cood start; and he had no doubt that in the future many boys when they were grown up would remember that euch homes gave them a real opportunity in life. He expressed not only the hope but i the confident opinion that equally good work and pro-: gross would bo made during the coming year. He was not a business man,. but one heard on every side that we had "turned the comer,"'as the saying was, in New Zealand, and we might look forward to'better times; and since they had. ■done so well during the very stringent financial conditions in, New. Zealand, he hoped that in the^brighter days to come they would be able to'do even better.
On the motion of Mr. J. W. Henderson; the annual ..report, which has alTeady been printed, was adopted. In moving thejadontion of the balancesheet, Mr. J. "W. Henderson said they were fortunate in having a < fairly good sum in hand. If the new year were a successful one they might be able to pay off the debt, and have the property at the Hutt clear. ! ' ■
