VICE-REGAL.

Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Viscountess Jellicoe were due to leave Auckland this morning on a visit to the Waiknto district. At Mercer,this afternoon His Excellency was to have unveiled a soldiers' memorial, and this evening at Hamilton Her Excellency will present badges to the Girl Guides. Their Excellencies will visit Raglan to-morrow, where another memorial will be unveiled, and a similar ceremony will T)e performed at Morrinsville on Sunday. On Monday they will pay a visit to Cambridge. Before returning to Auckland the GovernorGeneral will spend several days fishing at TokaatfU. During her visit to the Waikato district, Lady Jellicoo .will spend two days hunting.

The Hon. J. G-. Coates, Minister of Public Works and Postmaster-General, returned to Wellington from the North to-day.

Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Minister of Defence, returned to Wellington from tho "South Island to-day.

The death is announced by a Press Aesociation message from London of Lord Sinclair, who served with the 57th Regiment in the New Zealand war. .

Colonel R. J. Collins, who has been away on an extended tour of the North Island during the last two months, returned to town last ayening.

The resignation of Mr. H. Buddie as valuer for the Corporation of city,leaseholds was accepted with regret by the City Council last evening, and it was decided that a letter of thanks be forwarded to him for his past services.

An enlarged photograph of the late Rev. W. A. Evans, for many years chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board, now adorns the board room of the Hospital Board. The Chairman expressed his gratification that the photograph had been presented to the board. Among the Canterbury College students who passed the final section of the Law Professional Examination, the results of which were announced this week, was Mr. Melvin J. Barns, elder son of Mr. Ales. Burns, sub-editor of the Christchnrch Press, formerly of the Press Association staff, Wellington.

Mr. G. George, who has been a director of the Seddon Memorial Technical College at Auckland for twenty years, lias resigned on account of throat troubles. The board of managers accepted the resignation with, regret, and made a recommendation to tie department that Mr. George be granted six months' leave from Ist July on full pay. ,

Reference was made bj' the Mayor at last night's council meeting to the death of Mr. J. J. Kerslake, an old servant of the Corporation. For many years Mr, Kerslake was foreman of the public works department of the council, and he was always correctly looked upon as a most conscientious man, doing his duty fairly between the council and its employees. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Councillor "W. H. Bennett, the council passed in silence a motion expressing sympathy with the .family of the late Mr., Kerslake.

"It is with regret that We record, the loss by death of two of our oldest members, J. K. Davi6, of the Auckland Boys' Grammar School and H. A. Snrithson, of Wellington College (states ■the annual report of the Secondary School Assistants Association of New Zealand). They gave of their best and left us full of years and honours. A past president of our association, A. H*eine, Wellington College, retired on. superannuation last year. We brusfc that he will long be spared to enjoy his well-earned rest. We record with pleasure the appointment of 0. H. Broad to the beadmasteiship of Nelson College and H. Gamble to the headmaßtership of the Mount Albert Grammar School."

It is officially announced that the term of his engagement having expired, Captain A. W. Brocks, M.C., Chief Instructor in Physical and Eecreational Training, will be leaving for England shortly to rejoin his regiment. Captain Brocks, who was a member of the famous 29th Division and won his Military Cross on Gallipoli, was specially engaged at the request of the New Zealand Government for the instruction of reinforcement drafts in training in New Zealand in physical and recreational exercises, the selection being made by BrigadierGeneral Richardson. In Ehe training of the reinforcement drafts Captain Brocks did immensely valuable work, and at the expiration of the term of his engagement so much was thought of his work that he was re-engaged for a further period of two years. During the past 18 months Captain Brocks has been Chief Instructor in Physical and Recreational Training at the "O.H.Q. .School, Trentham, which, under the IVfcnce retrenchment scheme, has now been closed. He is an expert instructor, whose services will be greatly missed in the future training o( the Now Zealand Force*,.
