SWIMMING RACES
It is evident by the large attendances at tho Public Tepid Bath that winter swimming is likely to be more popular than for many years past. During the month of March_ over 3300 attendances were recorded which is easily a record for this time of the year. The Boys' institute Club is holding a series of races throughout -the winter months, the results of last night's races being as follow:— 33 1-3 yards Handicap—J. M'lvor 1, D. Cleverley 2. Time, 30sec. The 66 2-3 yards Handicap produced nineteen competitors, the winners being—lst heat, R. Hickling 1, F. Mollier 2, time 54 2-s£ec; 2nd heat, Cannon 1, A. Cleverley 2, time, 56 l-ssec; 3rd heat, F. Thomas 1, M. Dowl2, time 55 2-ssec. The final, which was a great race, resulted as follows: —R. Hickling, 2sec, 1; M. Dowling, 7sec 2; F. Mollior, Bsec, 3. Time 53 2-ssec. The races will be continued every Friday- even•ing.' During the, month 36 New Zealand Swimming Association certificates for proficioncy m swimming were secured by members of the Institute.
