TRENTHAM TRAINING NOTES

A lot. of rain fell at Trentham overnight And early this morning, and the tracks were on the heavy side. The inside trial gallop, which was open, cut up quickly. G. Jones put in ;an appearance with Radiant Light, Absurdum, Truthful, and Surveyor. They did easy pace work. Absurdum and Surveyor may both run in the Railway. J. O'Shea is doing the riding'for. the stable. ; P. U. T. Hogan had Songbird and Liqueur out. The former looks bright and fresh, and appears to thrive on racing and travelling. He worked on Saturday morning and again on Sunday. This morning he galloped a mils with Silver Peak, the latter having the best of it, in lmin 49sec. Both carried light boys, Fisher and Peart, about 7.0. Songbird is not a good horse in bad going, and if it is heavy on the day his trainer informs me he will not run. F. E. Ellis, who formerly trained at Trentham, got a welcome from the local trainers on making his appearance. He brought up Silver Peak and Roseday. The latter, unfortunately, has met with some injuries, and may not run at the meeting. ." Pink Rose and Lord Usk got to the ;end of , six furlongs iv lmin 21 2-ssec, in the order named. Roset, the only member of J. Ayres's (team engaged on the opening day, ran down half-a-mile. ; : ,: Sycorax, Patuki, and the two-year-old ICing's Trumpeter, who arrived from Hastings on Saturday, did pace work. Sycorax never looked fitter. .'• After cantering, a round, Wamba .jumped off at the half-mile post,, and ran home in 52sec, a good gallop for a hurdler. ■ . Dainty Step, who is to make her re.appearance at Tauherenikau at Easter time, is looking fairly forward. Printemps, assisted by two stable companions, greatly pleased ; his ' ownerstrainer by galloping the Thompson distance in lmin 47sec. .'" Horses with more than one engagement on the opening day at Trentham, are :— Songbird (Thompson and Railway Handicaps and New Zealand St. Leger), Martial Dawn (St. Leger and Thompson Handicaps), Askari (Thompson- and North Island Challenge), Radiant Light (Thompson-and St. Leger), Sunny Cor- 1! . ncr (Thompson and Railway). Songbird .was left in the St. Leger in error. Callaghan , is" back again at ' his old ■quarters at Trentham, and was on the track after breakfast.. ' [ ' ; A,.'special' meeting of" the. committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club will be held on Tuesday to consider G. Young's appeal against his suspension by the iWaimate Racing Club. If Young is successful in his appeal he will be able to ride at Trentham on Thursday., Pink Rose, the hope of Marlborough at Trentham, goes back to Rosalind, , who produced many winners by different 1 sires in* the barley district. Pink Rose . is by Solferino—Roseland, by Finland— Rosie, by Hillstone —Rosalind. Roy Reed has quite recovered from the injuries received while riding work at Ngatarawa. He is at present at Trentham, and will be able to fulfil en- - gagements at the local meeting. Three English-bred colls reached 'Auckland by the Dorset on Sunday.
