EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS.

The Eastbourne Borough Council held its monthly .meeting last evening, when the following were present:—Councillors C. A. Marquis, C. Hartridge, H. M'Gill, C. L. Green," T. W. Pilcher, and H. W. Shortt, the latter taking the chair in the absence of the Mayor

The report presented by the actinggeneral manager, Mr. R. B. Witty, stated that necessary patching had been done along the main road. At Totara-street the contractor had commenced work on the channeling, where it had been found necessary to deviate slightly from the original plans. It was expected that the work would be completed by next month.

Tho report on the coal depot showed that receipts from Ist April, 1921, totalled £1156 15s 6d, and the expenditure £2028 15s 6d ; the value of stocks in hand being £971 15s, which included coal and firewood. Most of the coal iv stock was unsuitable for household use.

It was decided to purchase 50 tons of suitable coal before the winter sets in.

The position of the District Fund Account showed that the amount of rates, etc., collected up to dato was £2873 18s 6d, only £106 7s 2d being outstanding. The total estimated expenditure wos £2903, and of this £2431 13s Id had already been used up, leaving a, balance available of, £471 6s lid. Building permits issued during the month represented £1736 10s, and from Ist April, 1921, the total was £34,701, the fees paid thereon amounting to £68 10s.
