The. Westport Jockey Club's Meeting was opened to-day in beautiful weather. There was a good attendance, and the totalisator handled £4693, compared with £5435 for the first day last year. Results:—
Trial Hack Handicap, of 60 soys; six furlongs and 80 yards.—Steepholm, 8.1, 1; Le Forte, 7.7, 2; Sunba.th, 7.13, 3. Also started: Lady Pallas, Redsome, Chaeronia, Preludium, War Unit, Bonash. Won by one and a-half lengths. Time, lmin 23 2-ssec.
Granity Handicap Trot, of 60 soys; one mile. —Bonnie Lad, 96yd3 behind, 1; Nent, 156 yds behind, 2; Foxglove, 36yds behind. 3. Scratched: Smithy Dillon, Grey Dawn, Tassy M. Won by a longneck. Time; 2min 24 l-ssec.
Karamca Handicap, of 100 aovs; one mile.—Lady Middleton, 8.7, 1; Carnbrae, 8.0, 2; Black Knight, 8.6/3. Also started: Lord Ashlea, Grand Duchy, Tiranga. • Won by a length. Time, lmin 47sec.
Electric Handicap, of 60 soys; five furlongs.—Walthea, 7.10, 1; Golden Morn, 7.10, 2; Bunny. 9.8, 3. Also started: Demonstaite, Gatha. Won by three lengths. Time, lmin 4 2-ssec.
■ West-port Handicap Trot, of 65 soys; one' mile and a-half. —Prince Charlie, 84yds behind, 1; Brooklyn Hall, limit, 2; Harold Hue, 192 yds behind, 3. Scratched : Wireless, Stella Ashley, Neut, Trixie Adair, Tassy M. Won by four lengths. Time, 4min 3 2-ssec.
Patterson Memorial Handicap, of 70 soys; seven furlongs.— Falstaff, 8 11, 1; Cheer Up, 10.0, 2; War Tax, 8.3, 3. Also started: Steepholm. Won by two lengths. ;
Orawaiti Handicap, of 60 soys; six furlongs arid 80 yards.—Demonstrate, 7.11, 1; Merton, 8.5, 2; Gram* Duchy, 9.0, 3. Also started : Weary Willie, Rapid Fire, Bora. Time, lmin 24 4-ssec.
