Mr. W. Newton, Conciliation Commissioner, returned to Wellington last night from Napier, where he has been engaged in hearing the waterside workers' dispute. . i ' :
The Rev. James Ing 3, of Knox Church, Parnell, has tendered to the Auckland Presbytery his resignation from his charge. It was decided that the letter lie on the table for a month, and that a commission from the Presbytery interview, the minister anfl the congregation.
, The Dunedin Starl .understands that Major R. N. Fraser, the local district area officer, is included in the list of officers who are about to retire from the service of the Defence Department. \
Mr. A. Bender, who is leaving for England this month to continue his art studies, has resigned his seat on the Council of the Academy of Fine Arts. At a meeting of the council a vote of thanks was passed to Mr..Sender for his valuable services to the academy in the past, and the hope was expressed that on his return to New Zealand he .would again occupy a seat on the council.
