DENTAL NURSES

.WORK AT THE CLINIC.

Good progress is being made by the thirty dental nurses who are being trained at the central clinic to take up work iv the schools. The nurses are now jn the second year of their training, and next year will be ready to commence giving simple'treatment' to the children in the schools. . . .

In a report to the Minister of Health (Mr. Parr), the Director of Health Hygiene (Mr. T. A. Hunter) states that all day lbng women come with very young children to have their teeth seen to at 'the clinic, and the work done by the young women dentists could be gauged \by the fact that ' during the • month of February . the attendances amounted to no fewer than 634. Over a thousand operations were performed, made up as follow: FiDings in permanent teeth 118, fillings in temporary". teeth 74, silver '"treatment and cleaning 316, extractions Ipi permanent, teeth 83, 1 ' extractions of .temporary ,teeth\4lß. In addition to the iabovo/work three schools had been visitJed, and 507 children had had their iteeth examined and charted. The extraction of 500 teeth had been the means of eliminating so much sepsis that the value jof this alone to the developing child 'cotild not very well be over-estimated. During the recent Medical Conference of doctors visited the clinic, ■and expressed themselves highly gratified at the excellent work being done by Jthese dental nurses, and their approval ;pf the dental scheme that was being worked out. -•——
